Poetry Selections - "THE FLOWERS IN SPRING"
Susan Loy of Literary Calligraphy in Moneta, VA, joins text from literary classics or Biblical passages with delicate watercolor images and creates a unique bond between fine art and literature.
This beautiful print features the literary flower and the most beautiful words ever written about flowers in Spring.
Susan was inspired by the words of D.H. Lawrence to paint the poppy in her radiance, the tulip in her utter redness, and the anemone in pure condensed red. Jane Austin's words inspired her to paint the hyacinth and "to have as many hold on happiness as possible."
The original watercolor took months to complete, including the illustrations and 1,323 words of hand-lettered text, from Homer to William Carlos Williams. The outermost borders include texts from the 8th - 17th century. The top and bottom panels cover the 18th - 20th century, including Wordsworth's, "I wandered lonely as a cloud..."
