The theme of the limited-edition 2016 Literary Calligraphy® calendar is Americana. Twelve of Susan Loy’s hand-lettered and illustrated watercolors feature writings by American authors and the artist’s interpretations of historical documents, including parts of the U.S. Constitution. The year begins with Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and its declaration of human equality. February features the Shaker hymn, “Simple Gifts.” The Bill of Rights is presented in March, and April features some American wildflowers and poet, Emily Dickinson. Emerson, champion of American transcendentalism, suggests a secret to success in May, while June offers a William Penn’s maxim on temporal felicity. The Declaration of Independence celebrates the anniversary of American independence in July. August pays homage to gardening with Thomas Jefferson’s famous letter to Charles Wilson Peale and September presents more of the U. S. Constitution, Amendments 11-27, with another iconic American symbol, The Liberty Bell. Passages from one of America’s favorite books, Walden, by Henry David Thoreau are featured in October .In November, a clever letter from Thomas Bailey Aldrich thanking William Dean Howells for “a charming visit.” The year closes with the quintessential American Christmas poem by Clement Clarke Moore, “A Visit from St. Nicholas.”

Each month displays a different full-page image on the top, with a full-page monthly grid below that includes past and future months, lunar phases, holidays, and quotations from writers on their birthdays or from their journals. The 12” x 12” format opens to 12” x 24” – large enough to display intricate detail and allow ample room for jotting down important dates.
